Math Achievement Growth Modeling: A Quadratic Linear Approach

Sat, April 9, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

In this study, the Longitudinal Study of American Youth (LSAY) datasets across a six-year period was used to understand the mathematics achievement and the homework hours spent on mathematics homework over time. A three level hierarchical quadratic linear model was used for understanding the mathematics achievement over time. The results showed that despite the increase of the mathematics achievement over time, the rate of growth decrease over time. Additionally, female students tend to have higher math achievement score than male students at the seventh grade. There are no differences between male and female students in the rate of growth over time.
