The movement to transform the systems and practices that potentially suppress student learning has led to the call for professional school counselors to take on larger, more innovative leadership roles to support student achievement and equity. Counselors are uniquely positioned to take on leadership roles in schools because they work at the intersection of achievement data and one-on-one interactions with students However, this new vision of counselor leadership is not that of a lone hero. Working with principals, who have long been viewed as the singular source of leadership in schools, counselors are called to develop leadership roles and practices that are co-performed with principals to enhance student achievement, especially in the area of college readiness.
