What's Happening in Urban Partnerships in the United States? A Meta-Analysis

Abstract

Working in a "better way" is essential to urban school-university partnerships. Inner-city schools face rising challenges, and partnerships are responding with creative collaborations. Professional Development Schools offer all involved an opportunity for professional learning experiences that in turn generate school renewal. This stance towards change facilitates accountability and allows data to be used to inform judgments about performance and impact as well as how the partnership can be supported and improved. This meta-analysis of urban school-university partnership empirical studies identifies how urban school-university partnerships are demonstrating that they are working in a "better way" by examining the impact as presented in the literature. The findings include commitment to social justice, intentionality, data to drive renewal, extended collaborations, and technology integration.
