This is a descriptive study on trends in performance and growth by students with and without disabilities on statewide summative assessment. We use extant data from five states, including current and prior year test scores in Math and ELA for students in grades 3-8, student demographics, disability and special education status and testing accommodations. Highlights include: confirmation that students with disabilities tend to score lower on the state assessment than their nondisabled peers, and students with disabilities are about as likely as students without disabilities to score in a higher proficiency level from one year to the next, but that positive transition is more likely to occur below the proficiency cut score (e.g., from below basic to basic).
