Sun, April 10, 8:15 to 10:15am, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Two, Marquis Salon 13

Abstract

Both 21st century skills and game-based learning have been gaining an enormous amount of attention from researchers and practitioners. While some researchers are trying to develop educational games in hopes of promoting students’ 21st century skill development in schools, little has been understood regarding the positive impact of games on students’ skill development. This study reveals that among the recent research which targeted 21st century skills as learning outcomes, only one fourth suggested game-based learning might be used to foster students’ 21st century skill development, especially critical thinking skills, creativity, and collaboration. Also, it remains unclear how game-based learning might impact students’ communication skill development.
