The importance of technology and its impact on our daily lives has continuously increased and the number of jobs in the STEM area is also growing constantly. However, it is not clear how U.S. schools are preparing our children to meet the fast changing workforce needs. This study utilized student assessment data and data from a school contextual questionnaire which was administered at eighth grade as part of a National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) pilot study to examine technology and engineering literacy (TEL). The study also looks at how school’s focus on the TEL domains – Technology and Society, Designs and Systems, and Information and Communication Technology - is associated with performance on the NAEP TEL assessment.
