Prism theory proposes a new viewpoint on educational research. Founded within the philosophy of Breton and Deleuze and Guattari (1987), prism theory traces its lineage through art, literature, and then research, identifying where qualities of other schools of thought offer a space to view in new ways, find new forms of connections, and encourage flexibility matched with rigor. Moving into the next step of developing a new theoretical framework, a synthesis of qualities was garnered through the charting of prismatic inquiry’s: (1) a call to action, (2) mapping of the inside/outside, (3) freedom and expression, (4) praxis, and (5) convergence and divergence.
