Course Redesign With Open Educational Resources: A Design-Based Research Study

Sun, April 10, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section D

Abstract

Open educational resources show great potential to transform the landscape of education. However, their use in mainstream high education is quite low. This paper reports on a pilot study using open educational resources in the redesign of an existing campus-based course. A free online course was used as a supplementary online component for the campus-based course. Design-based research is proposed as a framework to guide the course redesign. Online questionnaires were used to gather information about students’ reaction to the use of free online course. Findings from this ongoing research indicate that students were moderately satisfied with the blended learning experience of supplementing an on-campus course with an online course.
