There has been greater commercial availability of wearable technologies as of late but only limited awareness of how they can be used to support teaching and learning. This paper reports on implementation of a newly designed sixth-grade curriculum that emphasized data modeling using wearable device data. We observed significant improvements in several areas with medium to large effect sizes using a new statistical reasoning learning progression instrument. We also noted through examination of classroom video data that collection and discussion of wearable device data invited active distributed reconstruction of daily events and thoughtful, critical scrutiny of familiar recess and lunch activities.
