ESL Students' Use of Technology for the Development of Reading: A Multiple-Case Study

Sat, April 9, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Two, Marquis Salon 14

Abstract

Building on research on second-language (L2) reading and use of technology for language learning, this multiple-case study explored English as a second language (ESL) students’ use and perception of technology for the development of reading in the community college ESL course. The data sources included interviews, observations, e-journals, and artifacts. Thorough within-case and cross-case analysis of data revealed various kinds of technology the participants used for their second language (L2) reading development and processes they engaged in when using technology for reading. In addition, the findings show affordances and benefits of the use of technology for L2 reading development. The findings and discussion of the study include suggestions for further research and implications for practice.
