Sun, April 10, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section C

Abstract

This paper examines the role of public comprehensive universities in promoting faculty vitality and defines faculty vitality operationally. A mixed methods sequential study of 30 mid-career faculty with high, self-rated vitality at three universities in the Northeast revealed that reflective practice, community engagement, creation of niches, and work with colleagues within departments were among the many ways in which faculty sustained their vitality and, in turn, influenced the quality and vitality of their institutions.
