Sat, April 9, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 146 B

Abstract

This study examined the effects of neighborhood characteristics on college enrollment rates and the role of neighborhood social capital in the college transition process in the urban community. The results showed that educational level of the neighborhood still has a significant influence on college enrollment rates even after controlling spatial dependency. The results further suggested that neighborhood social capital moderates the effect of neighborhood education level on college enrollment rates. In other words, high level of neighborhood social capital enhances the effect of educational level of the neighborhood on college enrollment rates.
