This study examines global citizenship in the context of a one-week, project-based learning experience for International Baccalaureate (IB) students from high schools in 19 nations. We add to the sparse global citizenship literature by using mixed methods and sampling pre-university participants. At the start and end of the event, students (n = 111) completed surveys composed from three extant scales of global citizenship, yielding the largest pre-university sample of global citizenship ever disseminated. This study also included two diverse focus groups: 8 students from 8 countries and 4 teachers who spanned the range of IB courses. Focus groups defined global citizenship, reported best practices for instilling it, and discussed affluent students’ privileged access to global citizenship education.
