Demands for cross-cultural curriculum development are becoming more widespread due to globalization and increases in multinational individuals. This paper examines the process of cross-cultural curriculum development in a partnership between an American University and educators from an Asian country. The purpose of this study is to explain a rationale for designing curriculum in a cross-cultural setting, where curriculum developers and teachers represent two distinct cultures and the curriculum must translate to each context. Findings indicate that success of cross-cultural curriculum development depends on initial conditions of the design--especially structures that facilitate translation. This paper offers an examination of the process so future researchers can learn from the challenges related to bi-directional cross-cultural curriculum development.
