Research at the Limits of Ethics” is a provocation to grapple with the (im)possibility of ethics in contexts that are marked by coloniality. It is a meditation on ethics as it pertains to research practice and knowledge production. Taking up critiques within contemporary critical race, decolonial, and feminist theorizing that examine the production of the human or universal subject as necessarily tied to the production of racialized-gendered and other categories of difference, I seek to think about the simultaneous insufficiency and urgency of ethics within colonial knowledge production practices. I posit that the ethical limits of research might animate thinking about the role/absence of the academy-as-we-know-it in decolonial imaginaries.
