With the current trend of homeschooling and the assertion of this method as a potential means of closing the achievement gap between African American and Caucasian students, research in this area is well needed. This study investigated the factors that have been identified as accounting for the differences in achievement and determined that these same factors were also predictors of whether or not African American parents opted to home school or to enroll their children in public or private institutions. These significant differences between parents who home school and those who do not, also contribute to student achievement. This makes it difficult to assert homeschooling as a possible solution for closing the gap.
