Pedagogic Practices Enabling Child-Centered Reforms in India

Mon, April 11, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D

Abstract

Several developing counties are participating in child-centered education reforms for primary grades. While there is an emerging body of work around the efficacy of child-centered education, there has been limited focus on identifying factors that lead to child-centered classrooms. This paper draws from a large-scale, mixed-methods study in six Indian states, and delves upon specific pedagogic practices that enable a child-centered environment in classrooms. In doing so the paper highlights what works in policy implementation in the classroom as well as strategies to overcome ensuing gaps in teaching-learning processes.
