There is a lack of scholarship surrounding partnerships between traditional university teacher preparation programs and alternative routes to licensure. There is a particularly deep conflict between many champions of conventional teacher preparation and Teach for America (TFA). We utilized a developmental evaluation approach to evaluate the first year of a partnership between a university and TFA. Findings include a timeline of key decision points that led to the inception of the partnership, and its development over time. Further, the different core values of each organization led to opportunities and challenges. Findings may inform (1) the evaluation field, as a case of how a developmental evaluation approach was taken in a highly polarized environment, and (b) those involved in teacher preparation.
