Abstract

In this paper, I examine processes of intellectual change regarding the study of race within three academic disciplines - Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology. By re-examining the historical literature on this topic using an analytical lens derived from social movement theory, I contribute to the literature that theorizes how contemporary understandings and enactments of race, in higher education and in the broader society, may be understood as the product of complex, sociohistorical processes involving disciplinary communities and the environments in which they are situated.
