This paper describes how the Culturally Efficacious Evolution Model (CEEM) is utilized to support the development of teachers of color at a Hispanic-Serving Institution that has a unique history of commitment to social justice for culturally and linguistically diverse populations, in particular a rich heritage of dynamic Latinos. This model was used in developing an observational instrument, the Culturally Efficacious Observation Protocol (CEOP), which captures aspects of instructional practice and works to ensure teachers are prepared to enact culturally efficacious practices. This paper features the ways in which the CEOP helped shape and guide the pedagogical practices of a Latina teacher and consider implications for utilizing the CEOP as a type of social justice tool in teacher education programs.
