Abstract

This study explores how classroom discipline is shaped by the use of teacher authority in managing behaviors and cultural expectations for urban males of color. This includes an analysis of how teachers create and co-construct boundaries that enforce the use of classrooms as political spaces for profiling, policing, and punishing urban male youth of color. Moreover, how the use of teacher authority influences their decision to dropout of school.
