This study focuses on how difference is historically constructed through historicizing the making of the child/citizen in localization education in Taiwan. As a national (re)building project, localization education embodies ways of seeing and acting, so individuals know how to participate in the world. Present localization education as a scheme of liberalization and diversification has a different configuration compared to previous conceptualizations. To explore the notion of child/citizen is to look at an assemblage of overlapping ideas in order to understand how shared episteme make particular objects of schooling and students. By studying the shifting notion of the child, the analysis seeks to reveal how modes of reasoning produce classifications and difference that continuously cast out the others.
