The purpose of this study was to examine the factors contributing to item parameter drift within the context of a high-stakes licensure examination that applies a common-item equating to a calibrated pool design. A series of multiple regression analyses was conducted to associate various factors that have been shown to impact the stability of parameter estimates over administrations. Results to this point indicated that the amount of time elapsed between administrations of an item could affect the stability of item difficulty parameters, and larger differences in the discrimination parameters might be observed if the same item was administered to two groups of examinees that show obvious differences in ability levels.
