Are We Prepared to Serve? University Preparation of Preservice Teachers of English Language Learners

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the process a Mid-Atlantic Region public university employs in order to prepare general education teachers to effectively addressing the learning needs of children learning English as a second language. The study examined the pedagogical and content strategies, which are integrated in university curricula, as well as the cultural practices that are integrated into coursework and field experiences for a sample of teachers in Title I schools.
