Most school violence research focuses on ‘student on student’ violence. ‘Student on teacher’ violence does not receive the same level of attention, despite the growing number of incidents that occur in school systems, both in the United States and abroad. This study uses data from the 2001-02 and 2011-12 Schools and Staffing Surveys (SASS) to explore the prevalence of threats and attacks on American teachers and its rate of change over the past decade. A regression analysis is used to determine effect on teacher satisfaction. Further, our study compares and contrasts American rates to the relatively few collected internationally. Findings indicate that ‘student on teacher’ violence is prevalent here and abroad and deserves more attention and study.
