Global Learning as Constitution of Meaning in Global-Local Contexts: Pedagogical Design and Support Toward Sustainability

Abstract

Through global learning about sustainability and preventive environmental strategies, the online learning course Young Masters Program has reached out to 110 countries. 20,000 high school students (14-18 years) world-wide have participated in globally extended classroom. The purpose is to analyze and describe the ways these students experienced their learning process on sustainable development, using a phenomenographic approach to research. Focus is on the global forum dialogues and how to constitute meaning in global-local contexts for learning, emphasizing the diversity supported by the course. Data collected student´ reflections on their assignments in interactive user forums online. The result shows that the contribution to learning for sustainability is of great importance. The result will turn to considerations of pedagogical design and support.
