Considering the 2016 AERA conference theme, “Public Scholarship to Educate Diverse Democracies,” this breakout session will engage graduate students on strategies for developing a research agenda that blends both dynamic scholarship and activism. How can students who hope to use their research as a platform for advocacy and equity better position themselves and their work? The overall goal of this session will be to help students with a strong commitment to social justice learn various ways to conceptualize their research through an activist lens, while also learning how to highlight the uniqueness of their work as they prepare for publications and presentations that will be accessible to the those inside and outside of the academy.
