Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Foreign Language Teachers: Conceptualizations and Empirical Findings Across Different Domains

Abstract
This symposium brings together research teams working on the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of foreign language teachers in different domains (French, Spanish, English as a foreign language) and in different cultural contexts (Belgium, the US, Germany). Its objectives are to contribute to the clarification of how foreign language teachers’ PCK can be conceptualized, how it can be operationalized, how it is empirically related to other measures of their knowledge, and how teacher education can support its acquisition. Three study presentations give input to be reflected by the discussant and through the discussion with the audience. The symposium uniquely allows looking at foreign teachers’ PCK from various perspectives leading to a higher state rationale for PCK of foreign language teachers.
