Session Type: Symposium
Today’s young children have access to diverse digital literacy materials at home and school. However, only a limited number of studies have examined the use of digital books for young children’s literacy practices at home and school. The papers in this session explore this topic by providing the audience with examples of the use of digital books at home and schools in the US, UK, Netherlands and Canada. The first two papers compare parent-child interactions during shared reading of print, electronic and/or digital books at home. Two other papers examine the use of e-books for early literacy learning at schools. The fifth paper presents insights into the role of child’s age and gender on children’s digital engagement at home.
