Abstract

The ability to comprehend and integrate sources ranging from text and hypertext to diagrams, images, and multimedia presents a significant challenge for students even at the undergraduate level (Britt & Aglinskas, 2002; Rouet, 2006). Although research on multiple source use has burgeoned in recent years (Bråten, Strømsø, & Salmerón, 2011), researchers have emphasized text-based learning or have focused on learning within a single medium (e.g., videos or text). This symposium brings together scholars applying various theoretical frameworks to investigate how students process, understand, and integrate sources presented via different media (e.g., videos and text).
