Session Type: Symposium
The session considers issues related to improving teacher quality and narrowing gaps in teacher quality distribution between schools in international contexts, drawing on studies conducted by the OECD Thomas J. Alexander Fellows. The session includes four papers that use OECD data.
Two papers investigate issues related to improve teacher quality across countries; one examines teachers’ working conditions that can make teaching an attractive career choice among high school students and the second examines school conditions associated with effective professional development in improving in-service teachers’ knowledge and skills. Two papers consider the teacher equity problem; one paper examines inequitable distribution of teacher support activities in international contexts while the other examines distribution of teacher quality in England.
