Session Type: Symposium
This session highlights research that applies Black feminism to non-traditional classroom contexts in order to facilitate the social and intellectual empowerment of Black girls. Through an explicit focus on authentically caring and healing pedagogies, this panel seeks to facilitate a more complex understanding of how entangled social identities influence learning. Moreover, by situating the analyses of Black female youth at the center of each presentation, the papers in this session position these students as experts of their sociopolitical location and empower them to push conversations around educational equity forward in the service of all students who are marginalized within the public education system.
