Assaults on Communities of Color: Transacademic Exploration of the Realities of Race-Based Violence

Abstract
The papers in this presentation reflect on the contradictions between the articulation of post-racial democracy and the realities of the racial police state in the United States. The panel discussion will examine the democratic notions of what violence against communities of color means given the constant articulations of educational reform and democratic participation in the 21st century generally, and during the Obama presidency in particular.
