Session Type: Roundtable Session
Despite the modest growing number of studies focused on migrant student populations, yet to emerge is a substantial body of research that conceptualizes how to facilitate academic achievement alongside migrant farmworker populations. Grounded in empirically-based research and reflecting our experiences working with migrant families, this panel represents critical papers focused on literacy, cultural proficiency, policy, and a critical historical analysis, in an effort to move this research agenda dramatically forward. The objectives of this symposium are three-fold: 1) To increase awareness and visibility regarding the migrant population; 2) Provide educators and personnel working with migrant populations tools to facilitate academic success in their communities; and 3) foster programming and policy that support the holistic migrant family unit.
