The draft Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), slated to replace the Millennium Development goals in 2015, are both broad and ambitious, calling for access to “quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education” so that all children are “ready” for primary education. But what does it mean to be ready for school? How best can we ensure schools are ready for children? The panel will reflect on results from global research on child development and school readiness, as well as emerging results from assessment and intervention experiences. Offering a worldwide perspective, panelists will share evidence from ongoing intervention efforts, results from field trials of new child-level instruments, and reflections on the development of scalable models for early childhood care and development.
