Session Submission Summary

Building Infrastructure for Social Emotional Learning in Routine Practice: Assessing Student Competence and Instruction Fidelity

Sat, April 9, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 143 A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Effective assessment tools and efficient implementation monitoring processes are needed for schools to widely adopt Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. This symposium aims to catalyze an evidence-informed discussion on processes for selecting, implementing, and monitoring the progress of SEL interventions. The first paper explores the capacity of a universal screening instrument to inform decision-making about the intensity of intervention that a student may need. The second paper seeks to identify which elements of early implementation predict continued implementation monitoring and sustained implementation quality. The third paper examines how much growth in Social Emotional Competence can be expected, among which students, and under what implementation conditions, as a benchmark for monitoring success. Together, these papers seek to inform real-time implementation decisions.
