Women Leading Education Across the Continents: Overcoming the Barriers

Abstract

This internationally focused symposium explores insights into the means by which women in educational leadership across the world overcome the persistent challenges they face and how they strive to achieve a more socially just society. Aligning with the conference theme, “Public Scholarship to Educate Diverse Democracies,” presenters explore five themes: gender status and educational leadership; challenges and barriers for women leaders; confronting the barriers; leadership in challenging contexts; and deconstructing the discourse on gendered leadership. Featuring studies from Afghanistan, Germany, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, they inform leadership preparation and policy globally through their challenge to present practices. With attendees, presenters will explore barriers that women leaders seek to overcome, broadening AERA’s commitment to community-building internationally.
