Innovating Learning and Teaching in a Centralized Education System: Potentialities and Problematics

Abstract

This proposal is a collaboratively developed paper session examining the problematics and potentialities of educational innovations in the context of Singapore educational system. In exploring and analyzing the Singapore pedagogical landscape, researchers from the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice aim to explicate and interpret the contextual elements and the associated functioning when schools are engaged in making the paradigm shift of their pedagogical practice. Situating the investigations in the sociocultural contexts, the researchers scrutinize school leaders’ and teachers’ understandings and experiences in reframing the educational context and classroom practice in the context of the high-stakes exam oriented education system. The affordances revealed from these multiple perspectives potentiating a deep understanding of educational change at the system level.
