Session Type: Structured Poster Session
Informal learning spaces such as museums and other out of school learning environments provide unique interactive opportunities for learners to observe, reflect upon and understand the interdisciplinary nature of complex, real-world issues. Characterized by a constructivist approach, informal learning experiences allow learners to connect classroom knowledge to their everyday lives through active, hands-on and creative inquiry.
Collaboration between formal and informal spaces is one way in which pre-service and practicing teachers can begin to teach and learn outside of the classroom. At the same time, museum educators can leverage such collaborations to improve informal learning experiences at their institutions.
This session brings together practitioners and researchers who are exploring different models of partnership building among formal and informal learning institutions.
