Session Type: Symposium
This session explores the unique and complex relationship between the vision, policies, structures, and programs of Urban High Schools and their students’ preparation, eligibility, and persistence in pursuing post-secondary opportunities. The four papers that make up this symposium will further the discourse on college going by exploring the utility of a college-going culture that better prepares more youth to be eligible, and competitive in the college going process. While the papers in this symposium cut across methodological approaches, social contexts, and unit of inquiry, the common thread that weave these papers together is their singular focus on increasing the number of Black and Brown youth who see post-secondary opportunities as a viable option to their future educational and career trajectories.
