Session Type: Symposium
The field of education research has seen a surge of interest in comic books/graphic novels as a form of scientific and humanistic inquiry. Examples of comics-based research (CBR) are proliferating in scholarly and popular forums. Despite this growing enthusiasm, there is very little guidance or practical advice available to scholars looking to integrate comics into their methodological toolkits. This symposium seeks to address this need by gathering a group of active CBR practitioners and researchers who will offer in-depth analysis of their methodological practices to shed light on the form and its means of production. We expect a lively discussion, filled with visual examples, hands-on play, and practical takeaways for attendees to put into practice.
