Session Type: Symposium
This session foregrounds the design of learning ecologies that work to foster mediated praxis, which is the intentional organization to foster the unification theory and practice We argue that a focus on layers of learning—in which researchers, practitioners and students are positioned as learners—will aid in a deeper understanding of design for praxis. Through collaboration across multiple sites, we empirically document and further theorize layers of learning as a way to: 1) gain insight into individual and collective learning processes; 2) complicate and better support movement across often dichotomized roles of researcher, practitioner and student; and 3) more deeply understand how to design for learning and instruction across formal and informal settings.
