Session Type: WERA Symposium
The aim of this symposium is to have an international panel of researchers with expertise in reading and writing present perspectives on models and interventions for reading comprehension and writing. The specific focus will be on text structure base comprehension and self-regulated strategies development (SRSD) models of literacy practices. Presenters include: Dr. Camille Welie (The Netherlands) – Text Structure, Dr. Graham (US) SRSD and Writing, Dr. Wijekumar (US) – Text Structure and English language learners, and Dr. Rui Alves (Portugal) SRSD. Key questions to be examined by each presenter include how text structure and self-regulation (a) contribute to reading and writing outcomes, (b) can be implemented in classrooms, (c) promote reading comprehension and writing, and (d) global perspectives on the topics.
