Abstract

In this symposium a productive network of eight women scholars from the United States and New Zealand share empirical research and experiences in academe with a diverse international audience for the first time. This interactive session aims to build camaraderie with women academics in the world who are culturally and linguistically diverse and exchange counter-narratives of overcoming notions of “otherness” as “outsiders” in largely hegemonic academic organizations. Each paper in the session offers participants professional and sometimes personal narratives, strategies and ways forward to inspire, uplift, and advance international women of color while informing participants who are not with our ways of transcending myriad shared ‘borders’ we encounter and transcend in academia all over the world.
