The Evolving Higher Education Community: Reflecting on Our Past to Inform the Future of the Field

Abstract

As AERA celebrates 100 years, it is an important time for the field of higher education to reflect on its own history, how the field has changed, and what it might look like in the future. In this session, we bring together higher education scholars from all generations through both digital storytelling as well as an in person panel about our past and our future. Key questions examine: changing areas of study, development of various subfields, relationship of research to policy and practice, connection to other disciplines, change in training and socialization, mission or focus of the field among other issues.
