Abstract

Hear from Dr. Linda Darling Hammond of her just released multiyear study of two public Waldorf schools who bring one of the longest living progressive school models, Waldorf education, alive in Sacramento City schools. Progressive education has to date been largely the provenence of the well off. Holistic education in the era of Common Core brings to the fore the accentuated need for education engaging the whole child in our urban communities, a focus markedly absent in the 'no excuses' model prevailing among our district and many of our cities' charter schools. This study promises to offer key insight into problems, possibilities and next steps for our Holistic SIG working agenda.
