During the drafting of the “Framework for K-12 Science Education”, four highly recognized equity science education scholars (Dr. Calabrese Barton, Dr. Rodriguez, Dr.Warren and Dr. Brickhouse) were each given 5 minutes to share their expertise in the area of science equity and access with the Framework committee. Following the presentations, there was a brief discussion. All told, the Framework committee’s explicit focus on issues of equity and access lasted a total of 100 minutes. Now that NGSS is a reality, Dr. Calabrese Barton, Dr. Alberto Rodriguez, Dr. Beth Warren, Dr. Pauline Chinn and Dr. Megan Bang will discuss implications, possibilities and challenges with NGSS and the Framework on which it is built.
Angela Calabrese Barton, Michigan State University
Pauline W.U. Chinn, University of Hawaii - Manoa
