This symposium offers insights into international research on teaching and teacher education. Presenters from Australia, Chile, Canada, Israel, Norway, the United States and Portugal will share their insights into the research underpinning the issues, trends and concerns in teaching and teacher education internationally. Presentations will explore four specific topics important to teacher education work; each will be introduced from an international perspective, followed by a country specific example that examines an aspect of the topic in detail. At a time when teacher education is increasingly under scrutiny, the international context is crucial to informing understandings of not only the issues buffeting teaching and teacher education, but also to shaping the nature of responses to the situation.
