Abstract

This symposium takes place in a context of the Educational Studies Association of Ireland 40th anniversary since its establishment in 1976. Consistent with the mission of ESAI to promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good, this symposium at AERA interrogates the extent to which education as an institution fully supports the idea of educating a diverse democracy. In doing so, the symposium consists of four papers from educational researchers working on the island of Ireland and beyond, each addressing key education issues surrounding teaching, inclusion, curriculum and multilingualism.
