Abstract

This qualitative study was designed to examine four Missouri Teachers of the Year and their mentors through the leadership theory, servant leadership. Data revealed three themes: 1) Collaborative Shared Spirit; 2) Twofold Motivational Influence; and 3) Ardent Empathic Association. Conclusions indicated: the mentor practices were consistent with servant leadership characteristics; the mentor behaviors demonstrated service to the adult learner; and there was a continuous need for relationship building within the mentor/mentee experience. These results provide further insight into the implications for a successful mentoring program.
